I agree with your post, Richard's environment is mostly why he acts the way he acts. He is trying to figure out right from wrong in a world that seems very confusing to him. Although drinking is obviously not proper six year old behavior, I think it is a way for him to learn new things that he isn't allowed to learn at home, in other words, a rebellion of sorts. At what time in his life do you think we can hold Richard personally responsible for his actions, and no longer blame his environment, do you ever think there will be such a time?
